Chelsea taps NTT DATA for digital transformation

Jan 16, 2022

Chelsea Logistics and Infrastructure Holdings Corp. has tapped Tokyo-based NTT DATA to help the company in its digital transformation.

Chelsea said it partnered with the global innovator of IT and business services to modernize its financial systems by upgrading to SAP S/4HANA, an enterprise resource planning software.

“Technology is an indispensable part of our business model. We are grateful to NTT DATA for making our digital transformation possible, taking customer experience and employee efficiency to the next level,” Chelsea Logistics president and CEO Chryss Damuy said.

“We look forward to streamlining all processes of the holdings company, Chelsea Logistics, and its subsidiaries to eliminate redundancies and ensure optimal resource utilization,” he said.

After acquiring various shipping and logistics businesses, Chelsea Logistics said it saw the need to create digital synergy among its brands.

Part of the digitalization was the decommissioning of Trans-Asia’s and SuperCat’s legacy systems which are outdated and slow in processing of financial data, it said.

Chelsea said legacy systems pose key-man risk in the group as veteran IT workers of the legacy system have been retiring, leaving the group with insufficient support.

“Thus, any malfunction with the legacy system will disrupt business processes and continuity,” it said.

“With the company’s growth and increased transactions, the legacy system fails to scale up and respond to the changing demands of the business such as data analytics,” the company said.

Chelsea Logistics said the implementation of S/4HANA now unifies the group’s financial data into one platform which provides ease in the consolidation process.

This has allowed the group to plan, execute, generate reports and analytics based on live data, resulting in better forecasting, it said.

“We take pride in the trust Chelsea Logistics has given to NTT DATA. We are eager to see more organizations follow their lead and prepare for the workplace of tomorrow, one that is resilient, scalable, and empowered,” NTT DATA Philippines president and CEO Poch Reyes said.

Chelsea is the shipping and logistics subsidiary of the Udenna Group of Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy.

The company’s shipping and logistics businesses segments are divided into charter, passage, freight, tugboat services, and logistics services.
