DITO Telecommunity Corp., a
Filipino consortium formed by Udenna Corporation, Chelsea Logistics and
Infrastructure, and China Telecommunications Corporation, has announced that it
aims to donate 375,000 kilos of rice to identified local governments in Metro
Manila to aid in their relief efforts for their marginalized citizens.
In a statement, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel
Tamano expressed DITO’s concern: “With the spike in COVID-19 cases that
necessitated the national government to impose the enhanced community
quarantine, we are fearful for the affected Filipino families who may
definitely suffer in these uncertain times.”
“Due
to the urgency, we in DITO have decided to make available rice to be
distributed to the affected families. The food security aid will be directly
distributed to Taguig City, Quezon City, and other cities in Metro Manila by
their respective LGUs at the soonest possible time,” he said.
“The
local government units (LGUs) have always been the source of strength in the
ongoing DITO journey to deliver world-class internet connectivity the Filipino
truly deserves, so specially in this time of need, we want to make them feel
that we are one community,” Tamano added.
DITO, formerly known as Mindanao Islamic
Telephone Company, Inc. (MISLATEL), is the third major telecommunications
provider in the Philippines after it was awarded a Certificate of Public
Convenience and Necessity by the National Telecommunications Commission in 2019.
